S3 | Episode 151: Office planning for the future of work with David Cornbrooks, Savills North America

Welcome to a special episode of the show brought to you in partnership with Arlington Economic Development, where we discuss issues related to the workforce, the role of place in the future of work, and the role of the creative sector in a larger business context. We call this Return on Creativity.

About the Episode

Today we’re going to talk about the return to the office and how it is causing companies to need to be nimble and adaptive in their approach to planning their office needs for everything from the next several months to the next several years. To help me discuss this topic, I’d like to welcome David Cornbrooks, Senior Managing Director, Savills North America.

About David Cornbrooks

I specialize in helping organizations align their real estate requirements with strategic business, financial and operational objectives.

An organization’s real estate represents not only one of the largest expenses but also serves as a tool that fosters collaboration and innovation, bolsters recruitment and retention, promotes culture, values and mission, supports wellness, and facilitates meaningful and productive relationships. At the most basic level, I help organizations get the most out of this tool.

Through Savills global resources, I’m able to offer my clients a variety of services and subject matter experts to help inform real estate and occupancy strategy including: workplace strategy; workforce analytics; site/building selection; transaction structuring and negotiation; project management; capital markets/investment sales; market research and analytics; and portfolio management and administration.

I’ve worked on all types of transactions (relocations, renewals, extensions, restructures, subleases, acquisitions, dispositions) and advise companies across all industries including government, nonprofit, association, tech, legal, and education, predominantly in the Washington DC metro area. I'm proud to have worked on over 2 million SF of transactions for a variety of prominent clients including City of Alexandria, The Education Trust, the National Governors Association, CARE, Amtrak, Atlantic Media, DC Government among many others throughout my career.

I bring a strong financial, analytical and detailed approach, the groundwork of which was laid during my investment banking days at RBC Capital Markets, where I provided analytic support to more than $1 billion of bond financings across the country.

Outside of the office, I’m a proud father; former Division 1 athlete and captain; dedicated Ally Love squader; fanatic podcaster (Armchair Expert, SuperSoul, Freakonomics Radio, TED Radio Hour); passionate Ravens, Capital and Penn fan; determined self-improver; Dan Pink, Adam Grant, Chris Voss, Malcolm Gladwell, Brene Brown, and Gretchen Rubin content consumer; and continual learner.
